Chaos theory concerns deterministic devices whose behavior can certainly in principle become predicted. The period of time for which the behavior of any chaotic system can be effectively predicted depends upon three things: How much uncertainty we are likely to tolerate in the particular forecast, how accurately we will measure its recent state, and a time scale with respect to the dynamics of the device, called the Lyapunov time period.
