What Can People Your Age do to Make their Lives Better – an Open Speech

Many youngsters believe that their civic responsibilities begin only when they enter the workforce. This is because they perceive themselves as helpless to do anything prior to it and, as a result, they postpone any duty to the country. But they are unaware that there are roles they may play, no matter how minor, to help better the country’s life.

Many youngsters believe that their civic responsibilities begin only when they enter the workforce. This is because they perceive themselves as helpless to do anything prior to it and, as a result, they postpone any duty to the country. But they are unaware that there are roles they may play, no matter how minor, to help better the country’s life.

One such role is that of pressure groups to raise awareness of important social issues in the country. The voice of the young can make itself heard in areas like conservation of the environment, protection of wildlife, as well as the arbitrary raising of school fees without consultation with the relevant groups. These are issues that directly impinge on our lives and thus should be taken note of by us. Furthermore, we can also put pressure on irresponsible advertisers who discriminate against certain groups in society or even use sexually explicit messages or visuals in their promotions. By showing that we care about our society, we can make a start in ensuring that sound moral values and correct practices prevail.

We can also support the community by actively participating in money raising and even volunteering as laborers for the less fortunate. Volunteers are always needed to assist old people’s homes and other charity organizations. Thus, by providing our services on a weekly or monthly basis, we are fostering a caring culture that bodes well for the future. Simple things like cleaning the house, entertaining or listening to the elderly, or making voice recordings for the visually handicapped are all within our reach and far more significant than shopping or hanging out at ‘shopping malls.’

People our age could also participate in various social welfare activities such as planting new plants and trees to minimize pollution and create a clean environment in which to live. Other efficient strategies to improve our country’s environment include trash collection in groups or individually, as well as not cluttering the streets. Smoking at such a young age and in public places is also against the law, so we should avoid these and many other antisocial behaviors if we want to see a better country. By implementing the aforementioned, as well as thousands and millions of other socially and environmentally responsible actions, we can ensure that our country’s living standards will be enhanced effectively and efficiently.

Finally, the best thing that people my age can do for the country is to take advantage of the possibilities that are offered to them so that they are well equipped with the knowledge and skills to contribute to society in the future. There are many things we cannot do right now, such as influence public policies, but we may prepare ourselves to be ready when the time comes for us to contribute. A significant amount of time and money has been invested in developing us as young leaders of the future, and we must not dismiss our responsibilities. In the end, embracing our responsibilities to our society is a big step in helping to improve life in our country.
