Lumbar decompression is a surgical procedure that is performed to alleviate pain caused by pinched nerves. During a lumbar decompression back surgery, a minute portion of the bone over the nerve root and disc material from under the nerve root is detached to provide the nerve root more space and give a better healing environment. There are two general kinds of spine surgery decompression procedures such as Microdiscectomy and Lumbar Laminectomy.
