General purpose of this lecture is to present on Motivation. Motivation is the processes that account for an individual’s intensity, direction and persistence of effort toward attaining a goal. There is a hierarchy of five needs—physiological, safety, social, esteem, and self-actualization; as each need is substantially satisfied, the next need becomes dominant. Motivation results from the interaction of both conscious and unconscious factors such as the (1) intensity of desire or need, (2) incentive or reward value of the goal and (3) expectations of the individual and of his or her peers.
