An AC Adapter is basically an exterior power supply unit that derives its power from a mains power supply and converts that current and voltage to that necessary by the moveable device. Having an exterior AC Adapter means that the device it is intended to give power to, does not have to have an onboard power supply, but simply the ability to get the power.
