Econophysics was started in the mid-1990s by several physicists working in the subfield of record mechanics. Econophysics is a good interdisciplinary research field, applying theories and strategies originally developed by physicists so that you can solve problems in economics, usually those including uncertainty as well as stochastic processes and nonlinear dynamics. Some of its application to the study of financial markets in addition has been termed statistical finance mentioning its roots in statistical physics.
