Data Obfuscation is a form of encryption results in unintelligible or confusing data. It is also a form of data masking where data is purposely scrambled to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive materials. It is more common to have obfuscation applied to data that is represented outside of a corporate production system. It is common practice in enterprise computing to take data from the production systems to fill the data component, required for these non-production environments. Data Obfuscation techniques are used to prevent the intrusion of private and sensitive online data, such as electronic health records (EHR).
