The term “cultural appropriation” or even “cultural misappropriation” usually carries a negative connotation. Cultural appropriation is a sociological concept which in turn views the adoption or use of elements of a single culture by members of an different culture being a largely negative phenomenon. Generally, an assumption that the culture being borrowed from is also being oppressed from the culture doing this borrowing is prerequisite to the concept.
