Ben Shalom Bernanke, Economist was born on December 13, 1953 in Augusta, Georgia, U.S. He was educated at East Elementary, J.V. Martin Junior High, and Dillon High School. Bernanke graduated summa cum laude in economics from Harvard University (1975) and earned a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT; 1979). He was chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (“the Fed”) from 2006 to 2014. Bernanke has given several lectures at the London School of Economics on monetary theory and policy and has written three textbooks on macroeconomics, and one on microeconomics.
