Admiralty law is distinguished in the Law of the sea, which is a body of public international law managing navigational rights, jurisdiction in excess of coastal waters along with international law ruling relationships between places. Admiralty law is usually a body of both domestic law ruling maritime activities, and private worldwide law governing the actual relationships between individual entities that operate vessels on the oceans.
